Passive house

Building for the future with the passive house

An airtight building envelope is an essential prerequisite for energy efficiency and comfort in a passive house. Passive houses combine four essential elements of modern construction: they are energy-efficient, economical, environmentally friendly and extremely comfortable. Passive houses keep the heat in thanks to their thermal-bridge-free envelope, comprising excellent thermal insulation, highly effective airtight layers and high-quality windows.

More comfort

In a well-insulated house, there are no cold zones and no excessive heat loss. High surface temperatures on the inside of exterior walls also promote a pleasant room climate and provide a high level of comfort.

A ventilation system ensures a constant supply of fresh air without draughts, and incorporates heat recovery from the outgoing air.

Energy efficiency

The passive house uses available internal energy sources, such as the body heat released by occupants or the heat of the sun. Thanks to good insulation, excellent air tightness and efficient heat recovery, a passive house requires up to 90% less heating than an existing building. Even when compared with an average new build, this means savings of over 75%. Energy consumption for heating in a passive house is just 1.5 l of fuel oil per square meter of living space per year (15 kWh/(m²a)), several times less than in a low-energy house (~50 kWh/(m²a)).

Passive houses are becoming the construction standard

On November 17, 2009, the European Parliament decided that all new buildings from 2020 onwards must be "near-zero energy buildings", meaning that they can consume almost no non-renewable energy. The passive house is the ideal reference in this field. Not only is it energy-efficient, it's also comfortable and economical to build. Thanks to the passive house components already available, future-oriented, cost-effective construction is possible for everyone.

pro clima INTELLO is certified as a passive house component: it is the first hydrosafe airtight system to meet this requirement reliably once installed.

Why build a passive house?

Certified air sealing systems from pro clima

Designers and installers can therefore rely on INTELLO to work reliably in construction. The system's tried-and-tested adhesives and tapes also contribute to the minimum air permeability of INTELLO PLUS (0.00 m³/(m²h)) or INTELLO (0.01 m³/(m²h)): ORCON F and CONTEGA SOLIDO SL for simple, reliable joints on concrete, TESCON VANA for gluing overlaps between strips and for joints on wood-based panels (OSB). KAFLEX and ROFLEX sealing sleeves, also successfully tested and certified, guarantee safe, simple connections to ducts and pipes. All pro clima systems tested meet the highest efficiency requirements « phA du Passivhaus Institut Darmstadt ».
